- Ghasiram Kotwal is an adaptation of a famous Marathi play of the same name written by Vijay Tendulkar. It is a political satire, written as a historical drama based on the life of Nana Phadnavis (1741 – 1800), one of the important ministers in the court of the Peshwa of Pune. The play highlights the fact that how people in power give rise to new ideologies and agendas and reject the same when their purpose is served. Casteism, power, politics, lust and greed these are the terms that have been elaborated with humor in this legendary musical play.
- Ghasiram Sabaldas a Brahmin from another province visits the Peshwa in search of good fortune but the city and its people make a tyrant out of him. He looses all including his only daughter Gauri. The cruel politics of Nana Fadnavis’s makes the entire populace despise him. He finally meets a painful end.
