- Anandi is a renowned actress of the Bengali stage and television serials. Her only son Suman was brought up by Ghanashyam – a relative by acquaintance – in their parental farmhouse at Pirganj in Dinajpur. This farmhouse, consisting of several acres of cultivated land, orchards, a pond with Kutum – a Swan, loved by all – is looked upon by Mohon and his wife Palki. Their only daughter Madhuri loves Suman. Suman, however, is in love with Jori. He dreams about experimenting with new forms of the theatre – a dream he desperately wants to share with Jori.
- Unfortunately Jori has other things in her mind. She wants to pursue a successful theatrical career in Kolkata – far away from the small suburban town of Pirganj. Her dreams are fuelled by Kiriti Sengupta – a bright star in the Bengali literary and theatrical world. Kiriti’s encouragement for Jori stems from his dispassionate and dogged endeavor of creating and promoting art. In this endeavor he can ruthlessly utilize anyone else with very little concern for that person. The other side of the story sees the local teacher Mrigendra falling in love with Madhuri while Madhuri’s mother, Palki secretly loves the kind and caring quack – Mustaq. The play develops around these complex desires and emotions of several individuals.
- Will they be happy if all their wishes are fulfilled? Will it be good for them? Do man and woman always desire for the unreachable and despise what he or she has?
