- Euripides’ Medea was a retelling of Greek mythology, staged for the first time in ancient Athens in 431 BC. A woman blinded by love and emotional upsurge murdered her brother, betrayed her land, Colchis… all for the sake of love but she was looked upon as a witch, a treacherous being, impulsive and crude, barbaric and revengeful.
- She was ditched by her ambitious husband, Jason, and punished exile by the emperor of Korinth, Creon. For revenge or rescue, she killed her own blood, two sons of her, at the end.
- But is she really a villain… or a victim? Is she only a passionate lover… or a loving mother? Is it a story of love… or hatred? Or it is all about power play and gender politics?
- The play not only portrays the Human passions and complexities… but also unfolds the conflicts and conspiracies of the state with an individual!
