It is an adaptation of Russian-Ukrainian dramatist and novelist Nikolai Gogol’s “The Government Inspector” (Russian: Ревизор, tr. Revizor, literally: “Inspector”), which has been ranked as one of the 15 “Best plays of all time” by The Daily Telegraph in 2014. This hilarious satire against corruption, as wonderfully adapted by the playwright Padmanabha Dasgupta, presents a commentary on an increasingly consumerist, commercial and cutthroat world where principles and values are sacrificed every moment at the altar of material success and power.
