  • About the Performance:

Sarabhuj, a cultural troupe from Midnapore, proudly presents an evening that celebrates the vibrant folk heritage of Bengal through traditional dance, music, and theatre. The performance is divided into two parts — each highlighting a unique facet of Bengal’s living traditions.

 

  • First Half: Traditional Folk Performances

The first segment features a colorful presentation of Bengal’s diverse folk expressions, showcasing the energy, rhythm, and storytelling spirit of rural life. The performances include:

  • Lokdharar Nritya (Folk Dance) – a reflection of the people’s daily life and
  • Brata Nritya (Brata Dance) – inspired by the spiritual rituals of
  • Mech Nritya – a traditional tribal dance of the Mech
  • Paik Nritya – a warrior dance symbolizing valor and
  • Lok Gaan (Folk Songs) – soulful songs that carry the voice of the
  • Pata Nach – dance inspired by scroll paintings and folk
  • Putul Natok (Puppet Play) – a charming traditional puppet
  • Handabaru – a rhythmic folk form performed with unique local
  • Ranpa Nritya – the lively stilt dance expressing festivity and
  • Jari Nritya – a devotional form rooted in Sufi and Baul
  • Rukmar Nritya – a vibrant dance representing martial
  • Antim Baddya (Closing Music) – an energetic musical

 

  • Second Half: Theatre Production – Aranya Purush

The second part of the evening presents Aranya Purush, a theatre production deeply inspired by folk traditions. This play combines elements of folk dance, music, and drama to portray the profound relationship between humanity and nature. Through symbolic storytelling and authentic folk motifs, Aranya Purush explores themes of identity, survival, and harmony with the natural world.

Sarabhuj, Midnapore, is a cultural organization devoted to preserving and promoting Bengal’s folk traditions. The group works with rural artists and performers to bring indigenous art forms to contemporary audiences, keeping alive the pulse of Bengal’s rich cultural legacy.
