- Trust is built—and it can be broken. Everything has a childhood and it grows with life, culture, traditions, fabrics of society. They experience adolescence, the surge of youthful passion, and then drift toward the calm shores of middle age. There, the signs of old age begin to emerge—gradually, a weakening sets in. This long journey becomes a process of reflection, an evaluation of existence mixed with deep sighs and silent calculations.
- This play, too, decorates its path with the ornate tales of time, marching forward. In the turbulent 1960s, young Neelambala holds the hand of Uddalak as they cross into the thunderous calls of the 1970s.
- Even before the stormy chaos of the ’70s settles, life becomes unstable again—railway strikes, a nation in lockdown, the movement collapsing under the shameless betrayal of its leaders.
- And then—change. The change of ’77. A breeze of dreamlike euphoria sweeps through homes with the essence of autumn. Life feels fulfilled to the brim.
- And so it goes. It must go on. Somewhere along the way, the tide turns, and the river of life becomes a vast low tide. Uddalak, now past sixty, appears like a sage of time with Neelambala, his witness and companion.
- They are now merely history. But defying the decay of the past, the two surviving bodies once again become peddlers of dreams—fresh, hopeful voices calling out once more for belief, even in the final hours.
