- The teachings of Param Purush Thakur Sri Ramakrishna in his simple words fill our minds and hearts with lasting peace and happiness.
- In 1863, the year Swami Vivekananda was born in Kolkata, in the dark alleys of the city a girl child was also born who never got to know the identity of her father. She grew up to become one of the most famous theater actresses of her time and achieved immense fame as Noti Binodini.
- At the height of her glory, her chance meeting with Thakur Sri Ramakrishna brought on the most defining moment of her life that was destined to shape to her career and life. Thakur was highly impressed seeing her performance and placing his palm on her head, blessed her saying “Tor Chaitanya Hok”. This translates as ‘May you be enlightened”. In those days it was unprecedented and unthinkable for a person like Thakur Sri Ramakrishna to even touch a lady like Binodini, considered a ‘fallen woman’. Thakur’s blessings took Binodini on to the path of spirituality and at the height of fame at age of 23, she renounced the stage.
- A bouquet of numerous such untold events will be brought together by ANANDAM in its 22 presentation of “Thakurer Aaloy Noti Binodini” (ঠাকুরের আলোয় নটী বিনোদিনী) at the Academy of Fine Arts, Auditorium in Kolkata on Sunday, 6 December, 2026.
- This play was performed multiple times at Mumbai Ramakrishna Mission, and other renowned venues in Mumbai. It was also staged at the hallowed quadrangle adjoining Maa Bhabatarini (Maa Kali) temple at Dakshineshwar, Kolkata, in front of a 5000 strong audience. It was an experience that words can’t describe. Besides, it has been staged earlier in Kolkata at the famed Madhusudan Mancha, among others.
- ANANDAM, founded in Mumbai about 20 years back by thespian Lucky Mukherji, playwright, director and actor, stages plays abounding with history and entertainment including period drama and musical. His work has been staged before at various renowned auditoriums in Kolkata. ANANDAM’s principal objective is to work towards alleviating the sufferings of people afflicted by cancer.
- Over the last 47 years, ANANDAM has donated the proceeds collected thorough its stage performances, towards providing service to cancer patients. Funds collected through staging of the show on 6th December, 2026 shall also go towards similar service. Its our earnest request and appeal to you that you support ANANDAM, come & watch this play and carry back the words of Thahur Sri Ramakrishna.
