- Tobuo Antigone is an adaptation of the seminal Greek tragedy. This play explores duty, justice, power, and moral courage. This play begins after a civil war in Thebes, where two brothers, Eteocles and Polyneices, kill each other in battle. Their uncle, King Creon, declares that Eteocles will receive an honorable burial, but Polyneices, considered a traitor, must remain unburied. Anyone who disobeys this order will face death.
- Antigone, sister of the two brothers, firmly states that divine law and family loyalty are more important than the king’s command. She attempts to bury Polyneices and is caught. What happens afterwards? Natadha’s latest production ‘Tobuo Antigone’ revolves around that saga by observing the nuances of social and political power and their limitations.
