- Vincent’er Mrityu (Bengali: “Vincent’s death;” 2023), directed by Manish Mitra and produced by Kasba Arghya, is a musically propelled play that explores and celebrates the short yet brilliant life of eminent Dutch painter, Vincent van Gogh, right until his death in 1890.
- Designed as an immersive experience integrating visuals of Van Gogh’s iconic paintings, an ever-present atmosphere of soulful melodies, and a non-linear yet evocative performative approach towards certain key points in the life and artistic journey of Van Gogh, Vincent’er Mrityu attempts to understand the true essence of the complicated painter’s striated life and legacy.
- Conceived through surrealistic interpretations of Van Gogh’s distinctive mentalscape, which include striking musical and physical explorations, the play embodies a living document of an artist’s audacious yet sympathetic presence in the face of larger society’s conventional dogma and expectations – a uniquely individual yet undeniably universal experience for both performers and spectators.
