“An Interview” – A play Based on Todd Philipps’ Joker, 2019

- Ranjan Ray is a popular talk show host called U‘n’Me X-Ray. Mr Ray invites a new guest today who insists to be introduced to Ray’s audience as “Joker”. A video of this self-proclaimed ‘Joker’, had gone viral last week where he had an insanely weird laughter and that prompted Mr Ray to invite him. Although on the same evening Kolkata is witnessing riots on the streets triggered by the news of gruesome murders on Dumdum subway.
- As the show unravels and the interview starts, Joker begins to talk about dark side of his life and his mother who raised him alone. While Joker elaborates all that he went through, Mr Ray comes to believe that Joker is suffering from a neurological disorder which causes him to have random, uncontrollable laughing fits what was seen in his viral video too. Mr Ray is dumbfounded when Joker confesses to the subway murders and what follows is a chaotic and thrilling end of the interview…Come watch the Interview!

- Rajani Chatterjee, a flamboyant theatre actor who had just appeared in a popular talk show, goes back to backstage and dozes off heavily drunk. When he wakes up he discovers that he is left alone in dark auditorium. He begins to dig into his past as he nears the end of his theatre career given his age. Memories and regrets start rushing back. Suddenly he sees Kalinath, prompter of stage, loitering around, an old fragile man who is also staring at death as Rajani. Kalinath has had no trace of a family or a home, all this life while Rajni has all those but he has felt a deep emptiness instead of all that. This uncanny situation builds a bond between the two despite the fact they come from 2 different classes both inside and outside of theatre. Finding a comrade in Kalinath, Rajani begins to delve into his life, love, loss of it, his passion for theatre, characters he had played. As dawn breaks Rajani concludes that an actor lives on through his characters who are immortal in the minds of audiences.
