দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধের প্রেক্ষাপটে টোকিও-র এক ব্যতিক্রমী স্কুল ‘তোমোই গাকুয়েন’-এ তোত্তো-চানের শৈশবের অভিজ্ঞতার গল্প বলে এই নাটক। এই ‘রেলগাড়ি স্কুলে’র প্রধান শিক্ষক সোসাকু কোবাইয়াশি প্রতিটি শিশুর স্বতন্ত্রতাকে গুরুত্ব দিয়ে তাদের নিজস্ব গতিতে শিখতে উৎসাহিত করতেন, যার ফলে চঞ্চল তোত্তোচান এবং সেখানে পাঠরত প্রত্যেকটি শিশু তাদের নিজেদের বাধা কাটিয়ে অনুসন্ধিৎসু ও প্রাণবন্ত শিক্ষার্থী হিসেবে বিকশিত হয়েছিল। কিন্তু যুদ্ধ সবটা একই গতিতে চলতে দিয়েছিল কি? এই গল্প আমেরিকার বোমারু বিমানের সাইরেনের আড়ালে এক রেলগাড়ি স্কুল আর তার যাত্রীদের কথা বলে যা প্রচলিত শিক্ষা ব্যবস্থার সীমাবদ্ধতা ও বিকল্প শিক্ষার গুরুত্বকে তুলে ধরে।
কলেজ পড়ুয়া রুপম। কলেজ অনুষ্ঠানে হঠাৎ অজ্ঞান হয়ে পড়ে নার্সিংহোমে নিয়ে যাওয়া হলে জানা যায় রূপমের মাথায় ব্রেন ক্যান্সার আছে। রূপমের মা অনুসসয়া দেবীর মাথায় আকাশ ভেঙ্গে পড়ে। স্বামীহারা অনুসূয়া দেবীর জীবনেএকমাত্র সম্বলই তা সন্তান।

নামে কী আসে যায়?তাইতো দেশ কাল পাত্র ভেদে ডেনমার্ক উঠে আসে একুশ শতকের উত্তর কলকাতায় আর হ্যামলেট হয়ে ওঠে ব্রাত্য বসুর কলমে হেমলাট। একি শুধুই বঙ্গীকরন,স্হানিকতা, অনুবাদ না ছায়ানুসরণ-এ বল জজের কোর্টের জন্য তোলা থাক।কিন্তু যে মীমাংসা আমাদের কাছে অমীমাংসিত থেকে যায় তাহলো- “টু বি অর নট টু বি-দ্যাট ইজ দা কোশ্চেন?” রয়্যাল ড্যানিস ফ্যামিলির সম্পত্তির কাজিয়া থেকে উত্তর কলকাতার চারিত্রিক স্খলন- এসব কে ঘিরে রয়েছে এক কবন্ধ অন্ধ সময়। যার শরীরে-দাদ,খোস,নালী ঘা,গুপ্ত যৌন রোগ।নিরাময়ের বিশল্যকরণী যার হাতে থাকার কথা ছিল সে ও বয়ে নিয়ে চলছে বন্ধ্যা সময়ের সংক্রমন। দ্বিধা- অনিশ্চয়তা-হতাশা। তবুও একটা ভাঙা তলোয়ার হাতে প্রতিদিন প্রতিপক্ষকে বিনাশ করা তার স্বপ্নদোষ।
এক ঝড়জলের সন্ধ্যায় প্রখ্যাত লেখক সুপ্রকাশ মিত্র একটা পার্টি থেকে ফেরার পথে তাঁর দরজার গোড়ায় একটি অজ্ঞাতপরিচয় মৃতদেহ দেখতে পান। ভয়ে উৎকণ্ঠায় দেহটিকে লুকোতে যান তিনি ও তাঁর স্ত্রী পারমিতা। সুপ্রকাশের তিন বন্ধু যাদের একজন পুলিশের বড়কর্তা একজন রাজনৈতিক নেতা আর একজন ব্যবসায়ী ঠিক তখনই এসে হাজির হন। ঘটনাটি এমন জটিল হয়ে ওঠে যার জেরে সুপ্রকাশকে পুলিশ গ্রেপ্তার করে। তদন্তের ভার নিয়ে আসেন একজন বিচিত্র গোয়েন্দা রবার্ট রামকৃষ্ণ হালদার। তদন্ত আরো ঘোরালো হয়ে ওঠে যখন সুপ্রকাশ স্বীকারোক্তি দেন যে খুনটা তিনিই করেছেন এবং তিনি জামিন নিতে চান না। যেহেতু মৃতদেহটি কার তা জানা যায় নি তাই তদন্ত আরও জটিল চেহারা নেয় যাতে জড়িয়ে পড়েন তিন বন্ধু, লেখকের স্ত্রী এবং লেখকের এক মহিলা জুনিয়র। প্রচলিত তদন্তের পথে না হেঁটে রবার্ট মনস্তাত্ত্বিক সমীক্ষা শুরু করেন এবং ক্রমে হয়ে ওঠেন সুপ্রকাশের ‘অপর সত্তা’অথবা ‘অলটার ইগো’।

One stormy evening, renowned writer Suprakash Mitra discovers an unidentified dead body at his doorstep while returning from a party. In a state of fear and anxiety, he and his wife, Parmita, decide to hide the body. At that moment, three of Suprakash’s friends-one a senior police officer, another a political leader, and the third a businessman-arrive at the scene. The situation becomes so complex that Suprakash is arrested by the police. The responsibility of the investigation is taken up by a peculiar detective, Robert Ramkrishna Halder. The investigation becomes even more perplexing when Suprakash confesses that he is the murderer and does not wish to take bail. Since the identity of the deceased remains unknown, the investigation takes a more complicated turn, involving his three friends, his wife, and his female junior. Rather than following traditional investigative methods, Robert starts a psychological analysis, and gradually he becomes Suprakash’s ‘other self’ or ‘alter ego. This bizarre and intriguing psychological thriller has been written by the distinguished playwright Shekhar Samaddar. The editing and direction are handled by the highly acclaimed director of the present time, Debashish Ray, with Suprakash being portrayed by the renowned actor Surajit Bandopadhyay and the role of Robert Ramkrishna played by another famous actor, Shankar Chakraborty. On the bank of river Sundha, Chandrabati, the young daughter of veteran poet Dwijabangshidash, fell for young Jayananda but Fate had other plans for her when her musical ballads implicitly criticised the ruler. One of her plays incited the wrath of local Kaji and he sent an enchantress to lure Jayananda away on the day of his and Chandra’s wedding with the aim of destroying the rebel’s life.

Like the watchful tiktiki on the wall, both men observe, wait, and strike—each move precise, each pause loaded. Victim and predator exchange places until the distinction itself collapses.
