“Angina Jure Bhor” is a theatre production that talks about losing cultural spaces which involves the disappearance of places, practices, and intangible aspects of a community’s heritage, driven by factors like globalization, urban development, climate change, conflict, and assimilation. This loss erodes community connection, identity, and valuable knowledge, leading to cultural homogenization and decreased societal resilience.
As the news of another iconic theatre auditorium of the city, named Circarena, built in 1976,being in ruins and decay resurfaces, we are left with the pertinent question of asking ourselves,“How long will the other theatre spaces/ auditoriums be able to keep afloat? Or it’s just a matter of time before they will be turned into ruins.
The play begins with the entry of a young research scholar named Nafiz, who visits Joydeb Debsharma, the present owner of an imaginary, old,and dilapidated theatre hall named RadhaRani Mancha, located somewhere in North Kolkata.
Joydeb Debsharma is an octogenarian living with his blind wife, Damayanti Sen, who is also suffering from mild cognitive impairment. Joydeb is initially hostile towards Nafiz and shows no interest in helping Nafiz with his research project, but after much persuasion, he finally gives in and starts narrating his story to Nafiz.
He is entrapped by the miraculous journey of a young Gomira Dancer from a small village of Khagail in Dinajpur, lured into the world of Kolkata theatre. As Nafiz navigates through the many mysteries of the RadhaRani Mancha, he realises the unparalleled love of this old man for theatre and this auditorium.

Examines the initial idealism of student movements, the formation of organizations, and how ideological deviations can lead to internal fractures and destruction.
Reflects on contemporary educational setups where native languages face neglect and professional pursuits overshadow cultural roots.
Focuses on how peer pressure or misguided encouragement can push young students into making grave mistakes, leading to personal isolation, tragic loss, and emotional ruin.

সময় এগোতে থাকে বড় হয়ে ওঠার সাথে সাথে তাদের মানা-না মানা, বিশ্বাস-অবিশ্বাস, রাজনৈতিক, সামাজিক মতাদর্শ যেন দূরে ঠেলতে শুরু করে ছোটবেলার বন্ধুদের একে অপরের থেকে। শেষে আবার কোনো এক পাড়ার চায়ের দোকানে এক হতে পারবে তারা? নাকি যে জানলাগুলোর আকাশ ছিলো, তাদের পাল্লা গুলো চিরতরে বন্ধই থেকে যাবে?

Our story sets off in the 90s,in the southern corner of The City. A narrative that pivots around four friends; Soma, Tubai, Buban and Tatin. Their growing up, their dreams, beliefs and aspirations. How they evolve through the adventures revolving around their intertwined lives in the colony they lived in. How time in its ruthlessness, and how, the development of their own political and moral ideologies put their friendship to test.
Will they be able to come together as one again, meet at the same old haunts where they once left each other. Will they be able to open those windows again; the ones that gave them the access to wide blue yonder.
Unresolved history has a way of catching up with us.

About the Director
Koushik Sen is an actor, director and theatre practitioner, and the founder of Swapnasandhani, established in 1992. He has acted in and directed more than 50 plays, with productions spanning adaptations of Shakespeare, Ibsen, Chekhov, Sophocles, Tagore and Brecht, among others.
His work with Swapnasandhani has been presented at major theatre festivals across India, including the Bharat Rang Mahotsav and Theatre Olympics.

Swapnasandhani is a Kolkata-based theatre group founded by Koushik Sen and fellow practitioners in 1992.
Known for its contemporary interpretations of classical and modern texts, the group has built a wide-ranging repertoire over more than three decades.

Set in a flood-prone village, the play follows a grieving father whose daughter loses her life because there is no bridge to help her reach school safely. Determined to draw attention to his community, he comes up with an unusual plan involving the supposed discovery of a sacred idol.
Join us as we watch Raghunath navigate grief, faith, and governance, exploring what happens when a community’s most basic needs remain unanswered in his attempt to make change possible.
KCC presents Something Like Truth, written by Shanta Gokhale and directed by Parna Pethe, at AMI Arts Festival 2026.
Through four monologues spanning France, India and Sri Lanka, the play follows women navigating questions of truth, freedom, justice and personal choice within very different historical and social circumstances. Movement and music run through the production, allowing the four stories to speak to one another across time and place.
