- Tarashankar Bandyopadhyay received acknowledgment and praise from Tagore for being a great artist of life and his insight about the relation between man and nature.
- Maybe the reason behind this was that nobody before Tarashankar had seen the entire lives of people ranging from socialists to outcasts and low borns so intimately. He had explored their issues and emotions at such proximity that might changed the author’s life as well.Tagore writes that Tarashankar’s stories are extremely pure and the former feels amazed after reading them.
- Even today when we read his stories, we feel amazed in our own unique and individual ways. He was mainly the creator of tragic emotion in his short stories but when he turned towards creating lighter emotions, like in this short story Adhla O Paisa, he created an unparalleled comedy. However within this comedy, he has intricately woven descriptions of social and political vision along with their reality.
- We, who are alive, see from the time of our birth itself that despite innumerable political power changes; inflation, deflation and such other political economic and social adverse changes have made our existence painful and horrific.
- Like now, we can find that the price of any item in market is at its peak. The beginning of the story is set in such a social and political setting where man’s life is suffering from inflation but the pain is depicted with comic relief.
- Our story begins when our protagonist finds a unique flint stone amidst inflation which on seeing and upon testing he feels is some precious stone, maybe a diamond. Here the tale of Bhulu Dutta’s greed begins.
