• লাহোর ১৯৪৭ হলো আসগর বজাহাত-এর লেখা বিখ্যাত উর্দু নাটক “যিস লাহোর নেহি দেখা, ওহ জন্মা হি নেহি”-র বাংলা রূপান্তর।

• নাটকটির পটভূমি দেশভাগ। এক মুসলিম পরিবার লখনউ ছেড়ে লাহোরে এসে ওঠে। পাকিস্তান সরকার থেকে তাদের একটি বাড়ি বরাদ্দ করা হয়। কিন্তু সেখানে গিয়ে তারা দেখে যে বাড়িটিতে একজন বৃদ্ধা হিন্দু মহিলা থাকেন, যিনি কিছুতেই সেই বাড়ি ছাড়তে চান না। কারণ এই বাড়িটাই তার সব কিছু।

• তার স্মৃতি, পরিচয় ও ভিটে-মাটি। শুরু হয় মতভেদ, মনোমালিন্য, ধর্মীয় দ্বন্দ্ব। কিন্তু ধীরে ধীরে দেখা যায়, এই বৃদ্ধা আর ওই পরিবারের মধ্যে একটা আলাদা সম্পর্ক তৈরি হচ্ছে।যেখানে মানুষ ধর্মের থেকে বড় হয়ে ওঠে। নাটকটি খুব সহজভাবে বোঝায় যে একটু সহানুভূতি থাকলে, বিভাজনের মাঝেও মিলন সম্ভব।

বর্তমানে ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশে ধর্মকে কেন্দ্র করে যে বিভাজন ও হিংসার রাজনৈতিক আবহাওয়া তৈরি হয়েছে তার প্রেক্ষিতে এই নাটকটি আলাদা প্রাসঙ্গিকতা বহন করে। আমাদের মনে হয়েছে ভারতের সার্বভৌমত্ব, বৈচিত্র এবং সর্বধর্ম সমন্বয়ের যে ইতিহাস, এই নাটকটি তার একটি উজ্জ্বল দৃষ্টান্ত।
