• একটি বাস্তব ও অবাস্তব কমেডি এই নাটক। দাম্পত্য জীবন আনে ক্লান্তি আর তার থেকে অবসাদ আর অবসাদ থেকে হননেচ্ছা।

• মানুষ একটা জানালা চায় যেখানে এসে দাঁড়ায় অচেনা যুবতী।নতুন সম্পর্ক আর পুরোনো চেনা বাসী সম্পর্কের সংঘাত তৈরি হয়।একটি খুন।তার বিচার।এক বিচিত্র বিচার।যুক্তি হীন যুক্তির কাটা কুটি।

মনের গহনে কি আছে ?হৃদপিণ্ড বুঝি,হৃদয় কে কি বুঝি ? 

মনের ভিতরে প্রজাপতি ওড়ে।তার বাসা কেমন দেখতে?

“রবীন্দ্র জয়ন্তীর ছুটিতে” 

• বঙ্কিমচন্দ্র চট্টোপাধ্যায় বিরচিত কপালকুণ্ডলা (১৮৬৬) বাংলা সাহিত্যের এক অমর কীর্তি, যাহাতে প্রেম, ভাগ্য, নৈতিকতা ও অতীন্দ্রিয়তার সংঘাত চিত্রিত হইয়াছে।
• উপন্যাসের প্রধান নায়ক নবকুমার, যিনি একদিন পথভ্রষ্ট হইয়া গভীর অরণ্যে উপস্থিত হন। সেথায় তাঁহার সাক্ষাৎ ঘটে কপালকুণ্ডলা নামক এক অপরূপা রমণীর সহিত, যাহার লালন-পালন এক কাপালিকের দ্বারা সম্পন্ন হইয়াছিল। কপালকুণ্ডলা মানবসমাজ হইতে সম্পূর্ণ বিচ্ছিন্ন থাকায় সংসারজীবন ও সামাজিক নীতি সম্পর্কে অজ্ঞ ছিলেন।
• নবকুমারের দুর্ভাগ্যক্রমে তিনি কাপালিকের চক্রান্তে আবদ্ধ হন, এবং ভাগ্যের পরিহাসে কপালকুণ্ডলার সহিত তাঁহার বিবাহ সম্পন্ন হয়। কিন্তু এই বিবাহ প্রেমের ফলে নহে—ইহা এক নৈবৈতিক পরিস্থিতির ফলমাত্র।
• উপন্যাসের গতিধারায় নবকুমারের পূর্বপরিণীতা পদ্মাবতী তাঁহার জীবনে পুনরায় প্রত্যাবর্তন করিলে কপালকুণ্ডলার মানসিক অবস্থার এক জটিল পরিবর্তন ঘটে। অপরদিকে, কাপালিক তাহাকে আপন স্বার্থসিদ্ধির নিমিত্ত ব্যবহার করিতে চাহেন। এইসব জটিলতার মাঝে কপালকুণ্ডলা প্রেম, কর্তব্য ও স্বাধীনতার মধ্যে গভীর দ্বন্দ্বে পতিত হন।
• উপন্যাসটি প্রকৃতি ও সভ্যতার সংঘাত, প্রেমহীন দাম্পত্য, এবং নারীর আত্মপরিচয় সন্ধানের এক অনন্য সাহিত্যসৃষ্টি, যাহা বাংলা সাহিত্যে বিশেষ স্থান অধিকার করিয়াছে।

• Basabadol is a compelling contemporary theatre production that reflects on migration—not across borders, but within lives, memories, and identities. Rooted in an old house on the verge of change, the play unfolds through an unusual cast of characters: an elderly man, a nameless middleman, and everyday objects that speak with startling clarity. 

• As conversations move between a bed, a pair of shoes, and their unseen owner, questions of class, power, intimacy, and belonging slowly surface. The play blends into lived experience, and humour gives way to moments of quiet violence and deep vulnerability. What is inherited? What is buried? And who truly owns a life or a name? With its intimate scale, poetic language, and strong performances by a mixed ensemble of talented actors, Basabadol offers a thought-provoking and immersive theatre experience. 

About the Director 

• Arpan Garai is a theatre practitioner, director, and creator born in Shantipur, Nadia. A graduate and post-graduate in Theatre Studies and Direction from Rabindra Bharati University, he worked for nearly four years as a permanent actor at Minerva Repertory Theatre.
• He founded ‘Shantipur Harmony Theatre’, where his directorial work Basabadal received wide critical appreciation. His major breakthrough as a director came with the Hoichoi OTT original series Talmar Romeo Juliet, which was widely appreciated for its strong narrative and distinctive cinematic treatment. 

• এবং ইন্দ্রজিৎ, ১৯৬৩ সালে বাদল সরকার এই নাটকটি রচনা করেছিলেন । এটি আধুনিক ভারতীয় থিয়েটারের একটি মাইলস্টোন নাটক হিসেবে ধরা হয় ।

• এবং ইন্দ্রজিৎ নাটকে আধুনিক বাঙালি মধ্যবিত্ত যুবকদের জীবনের আশা-আকাঙ্খা, সংকট, ব্যর্থতা, একঘেয়েমি তুলে ধরা হয়েছে ।

• নাটকের চরিত্র অমল, বিমল, কমল, এবং ইন্দ্রজিৎ । যাদের বেড়ে ওঠা, পড়াশোনা, কর্মস্থান সবটাই কলকাতায় । আসলে নাটককার এই অমল, বিমল, কমল এবং ইন্দ্রজিৎ- এদের দিয়েই সমাজের শিক্ষিত সাধারণ মধ্যবিত্ত যুবকদের তুলে এনেছে ।

• এরা ছুটছে, ঘুরছে, এরা ছুটছে, এরা ঘুরছে । সময়ের সাথে, প্রজন্মের পর প্রজন্ম । স্কুল, ক্লাসরুম, কলেজ, আড্ডা, প্রেম, বাড়ি, চাকরি, অফিস, বিয়ে, সংসার । ঘুরছে আর ঘুরছে । একটা আবর্তের মধ্যে ঘুরে চলেছে ।

• Parthapratim Deb’s play “Padma Nodir Majhi”, adapted from the Bengali classic by Manik Bandopadhyay, depicts the harsh, poverty-stricken life of fishermen along the powerful, unpredictable Padma River.
• This production by Baghajatin Alaap follows Kuber, a poor boatman struggling with nature, societal pressures, and his own desires, whose life is dramatically altered by a storm and the arrival of the charismatic merchant Hossain Miya with his dream of a utopia on Moina Island.
• The drama explores themes of survival, community, class division, desire, and the seductive but ultimately perilous allure of a promised land.
• Music forms the heart of this theatre; it promises a powerhouse of entertainment along the boundaries of a grave societal dilemma.

• The play follows the visit of an aging professor, Niladri, and his glamorous, much younger second wife, Ela, to the rural estate that once belonged to the professor’s late first wife. This estate now sustains their comfortable urban lifestyle.

• Two close friends—Bhanu, the brother of Niladri’s first wife and long-time caretaker of the estate, and Atanu, the local doctor—both become captivated by Ela, even as they lament the monotony of their provincial lives. Sukanya, Niladri’s daughter from his first marriage, who has worked alongside Bhanu to keep the estate running, quietly suffers from her unreciprocated love for Atanu.

• Tensions come to a head when Niladri announces his plan to sell the estate—Bhanu and Sukanya’s home—in order to reinvest the money for a higher income for himself and Ela. The announcement triggers a breaking point for Bhanu.

• লাহোর ১৯৪৭ হলো আসগর বজাহাত-এর লেখা বিখ্যাত উর্দু নাটক “যিস লাহোর নেহি দেখা, ওহ জন্মা হি নেহি”-র বাংলা রূপান্তর। এই নাটকটির অনুবাদ করেছেন অরিন্দম দাশগুপ্ত এবং নাটকটি মঞ্চস্থ করছে সুন্দরম নাট্যদল নির্দেশনায় রয়েছেন বিপ্লব বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। সুন্দরম-এর এই প্রযোজনাটি একভাবে শ্রদ্ধার্ঘ্য সেই মানুষটির প্রতি,শ্রী মনোজ মিত্র। যাঁর হাত ধরে সুন্দরম তৈরি হয়েছিল, এবং যিনি চিরকাল বিশ্বাস করতেন যে নাটক শুধু বিনোদন নয়, একটি সামাজিক দায়িত্ব।
• নাটকটির পটভূমি দেশভাগ। এক মুসলিম পরিবার লখনউ ছেড়ে লাহোরে এসে ওঠে। পাকিস্তান সরকার থেকে তাদের একটি বাড়ি বরাদ্দ করা হয়। কিন্তু সেখানে গিয়ে তারা দেখে যে বাড়িটিতে একজন বৃদ্ধা হিন্দু মহিলা থাকেন, যিনি কিছুতেই সেই বাড়ি ছাড়তে চান না। কারণ এই বাড়িটাই তার সব কিছু। তার স্মৃতি, পরিচয় ও ভিটে-মাটি। শুরু হয় মতভেদ, মনোমালিন্য, ধর্মীয় দ্বন্দ্ব। কিন্তু ধীরে ধীরে দেখা যায়, এই বৃদ্ধা আর ওই পরিবারের মধ্যে একটা আলাদা সম্পর্ক তৈরি হচ্ছে।যেখানে মানুষ ধর্মের থেকে বড় হয়ে ওঠে। নাটকটি খুব সহজভাবে বোঝায় যে একটু সহানুভূতি থাকলে, বিভাজনের মাঝেও মিলন সম্ভব।
• বর্তমানে ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশে ধর্মকে কেন্দ্র করে যে বিভাজন ও হিংসার রাজনৈতিক আবহাওয়া তৈরি হয়েছে তার প্রেক্ষিতে এই নাটকটি আলাদা প্রাসঙ্গিকতা বহন করে। আমাদের মনে হয়েছে ভারতের সার্বভৌমত্ব, বৈচিত্র এবং সর্বধর্ম সমন্বয়ের যে ইতিহাস, এই নাটকটি তার একটি উজ্জ্বল দৃষ্টান্ত।
