“Uttorottar Ramcharit” is a journey of re-search through Ramayana and Indian philosophies. The production is made following the guidelines from shashtra, traditional practices harmonising with modern urban forms.
দুই ভবঘুরে ভোলা আর আশু বসে আছে শহরতলীর এক ঠেকে। ওদের হাল খুব খারাপ। চাল-চুলো নেই, ঠিকমত খাবারও মেলে না। তবু ওরা অপেক্ষা করে। কে এক গদাই নাকি আসবে। এলে ওদের কি হবে ওরা জানেনা। তবু ওদের নাকি থাকতেই হবে । এক আজব জুটি আসে —পুজো আর লুকা। তাদের নানা রঙ-তামাশা শেষ হতে হতে আঁধার নামে। একটা বাচ্চা ছেলে এসে বলে, গদাই কাল আসবে। ওরা বসে থাকে। আগামীকাল আসে। গদাই আসেনা। ভোলা আর আশু বসে থাকে।
Two vagabonds Bhola and Ashu are waiting for someone called Godai. It is the suburbs of a city. The two tramps are in poor shape. No place to live in, no proper clothes to wear. Yet waiting is their destiny. A strange pair—Pujo and Luka—make a bizarre appearance. As they leave, it is darkness. A little boy comes to inform that Godai will come tomorrow. There is a to-morrow surely, but no Godai. Bhola and Ashu keep waiting.
জোলা আর তার মা লক্ষীর অভাবের সংসার । হাতে বোনা গামছা, ঝুড়ি, আর বাগানের সবজি হাটে বিক্রি করে, ওদের সংসার চলে । মায়ের কাছে জোলা আব্দার করে গুড়পিঠে খাওয়ার ।
মা কথা দেয় হাট থেকে বিকিকিনি করে ফিরে এলেই জোলাকে সাতটা গুড়পিঠা খাওয়াবে । হাটে আলাপ হয় চুনারিয়ার সই হাসনুহানার । হাসনুহানার দাদা মকবুল, জোলর ছোটবেলার বন্ধু ।
জোলার মনে ধরে হাসনুানাকে । ওরা চুনারিয়ার গ্রামেই থাকে । গড়পিঠা আর হাসনুহানাকে মনে রেখে নাচতে নাচতে ফেরার পথে ভূত-পেত্নির দেখা পায় । ভূত জোলাকে একটা আজব হাঁড়ি উপহার দেয় ।
হাঁড়ির কাছে যা খাবর চাইবে, তাই পাবে । জোলার অভাব ঘুচে যাবে । কিন্তু হাঁড়িটা মকবুলের বাড়িতে চুরি যায় । ভূত চোর ধরবার জন্য একটা রুমাল দেয় ।
শেষমেশ চোর ধরা পড়ে । আমাদের চারপাশেই বন্ধু সেজে ঠগেরা ঘুরে বেড়াচ্ছে । অথচ আমরা তাদের চিনতে পারিনা ।
পরিবারের বড় মেয়ে স্বর্ণ আশীর্বাদের দিনে বাড়ি ফিরলো না। পাড়ায় নিন্দের ঝড় উঠলো। বিয়ে না হলে কি হবে?
বিয়ে ছাড়া মেয়েদের জীবন অসম্পূর্ণ। কিন্তু স্বর্ণ রুখে দাঁড়ালো এই চিরাচরিত পিতৃতান্ত্রিক ব্যবস্থার বিরুদ্ধে। তার লড়াইয়ের মূল শক্তি হয়ে উঠলেন ভীমরাও বাবাসাহেব আম্বেদকর।
আজকের ভারতের প্রেক্ষাপটেও আম্বেদকার কতটা প্রাসঙ্গিক তা প্রতিফলিত হয়েছে এই নাটকে।
